Brett Dillon, the case of the Murderous Mechanic........

M
Our reasons we will never recommend or trust Brett Dillon of 'Bay Mobile Marine' of Brisbane, one may well say he took some slightly sick mechanicals and murdered them!

Going back whilst we were still in Brisbane we decided to have our 120hp Ford Lees engine given what may be called 'a good going over'. We were planning on heading offshore and wanted to do everything possible to avoid mechanical issues.
So, whilst we were up on the slip at Pelican Slipways Redland Bay (not a bad little slipway but we think there are better places to haul), we had this Brett Dillon around to have a look and a chat.
He appeared to know what he was about, he being a Kiwi and our engine from the 'Land of the Long White Cloud' he apparently knew them well.
We had decided to have the Borg Warner transmission reconditioned, all the cooling system stripped and serviced, injectors and injector pump reconditioned, exhaust/inlet manifold checked, starter motor overhauled and a few other bits and bobs looked at.
No problems, he would be there at 6am the next day, it would all take a few days to a week.
The next day should have told us to get someone else. He arrived about 2pm.
(Some 2 weeks later, the slipway was actually lowering us into the water, having been delayed by a week because the repairs took twice as long as we were told and Brett was still trying to get the engine to run!)
To cut what is a very long story short, we paid Brett Dillon to perform all the above, and also pull out and fully rebuild our 5KVA Volvo powered genset.
In the 12 months following, we had to throw out the newly reconditioned genset and buy a new one (there's another whole page on that!), throw out our newly reconditioned transmission and buy another, have the cooling system removed and repaired, replace the alternator that was destroyed by a water leak, plus of course all the associated labour. Stress, did we hear STRESS!
So if you happen to come across this and are thinking of using him to work for you, we would not wish to influence your decision in any way, no really, maybe he was just having a few bad months, but we would not use or recommend him if he were the last 'mechanic' on earth. Better to buy a set of oars.
In his defence, he did refund some of our hard earned money, but Brett, where is the rest?
And, as usual...........
