April 2006 – Melbourne

What the heck happened to the weather?!  It's winter already here in Melbourne - when we got up the other morning, it was 9 degrees!  Anyway it was good to catch up with some friends and of course family.  We spent a few days in a marina berth which was handy to fill water tanks, do some shopping at the local shops and also some washing at the laundry.  Having spent enough time and money at the marina we moved onto the public wharf at Hastings to spend a few sleep-interrupted nights (excuse me crew, who's sleep was interrupted?!!) keeping an eye on mooring lines as the tide came and went.  Now we are safely tucked away at a small marina further up Westernport Bay due to the kind offer from the owner to have us stay with them for a while. (It's not what you know but who, sometimes).

Yaringa Marina

So here we sit until the weather and wind decide we can depart.  From here we intend to sail around Wilson's Promontory to Refuge Cove or one of the other bays close by then on up to Bitangabee Cove just below Eden.

Since the day we left Port Adelaide we have still not had a day where winds have not been over 25 knots, 40+ on many occasions, which means of course we will end up becalmed next.  Where are the trade winds? I want to go there please!

A few days to do some work on board was useful, however since it's now Saturday, and there are only 30 knot winds forecast, (at least it's a drop!) we've decided to head out for 2 more days of fun in Bass Straight.

Everybody here has been terrific, thanks for running us around to several kind folk, and thanks to the Yaringa Boat Harbour.
